A few people have reported issues with “wrong times” being reported by runsat.
This seems to occur only on certain phones.
To work around this, I’ve switched the software over to an alternative timing source within Windows/GPS – hopefully this will produce good results on all phones.
The new release is available now from the download page.

Hi!
Great app, nice work! Unfortunately, I have a problem.
Device: QTEK9100 with WM5, external GPS receiver.
Runsat shows my position on the map, and speed, but the distance remaining 0 all the time.
Please help, I like this application (this is the best on the “market”), and I wanted to use it!
Thanks!

I think this might be as simple as lack of instructions… I need to work on the UI some more! Have you pushed the start arrow? Sorry for the lack of instructions! I will do something about this soon!
June 25th, 2010 on 2:10 pm
Yes, I ran 30 minutes, as the app showed, so I saw the current speed, elapsed time. Once I stopped for drink, the chrono stop too, and I continued, the chrono continued too. So it knew the speed, and location, but not the distance.
Maybe this problem unique, only my problem, so could we continue this discussion by e-mail?
Thank You,
Gabor Nagy

Thanks Gabor
In that case, the only thing I can think is that the GPS never reports good enough lock – the default setting for this is on the “System tab” – by default this is set to 50m accuracy required. It could be that your external GPS is reporting less accurate or isn’t reporting any accuracy at all. For WM5 I test with an external GPS and my old Dell Axim v51 – so I know WM5 and an external GPS can work.
June 25th, 2010 on 3:12 pm
You can also see the accuracy on the bottom of the details page – http://www.navmi.com/wp-content/gallery/screenshots/detail.jpg – Dh is the reported horizontal resolution (in metres)

I can’t get a GPS lock on my HTC TouchPro2. It alternates between showing GPS data and “No GPS Data” about 2 or 3 times a second. Going back to version 1.1.2 works just fine. I ran multiple tests with the two versions and hard resetting my phone between installs with the same results. This same problem existed in a previous version and you corrected it.
Love your application!! Keep up the excellent work!
June 29th, 2010 on 3:32 am
Same problem as Centurian with same phone. It will not lock. Went back to 1.1.2 then tried 1.1.5 and it worked.
June 29th, 2010 on 4:00 am
Next issue. Are there ant other maps that can be used with the program? For hiking in particular here in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the Openstreet maps leave a lot to be desired in the back country.
Any advice would be appreciated.
June 29th, 2010 on 6:30 am
Thanks for the problem reports – if you change the 50m accuracy required on the “System tab” does this help? Also, just to check – are you saying that 1.1.5 works for you, but 1.1.6 doesn’t? I’ll check no other gremlins snuck in to the release…
June 29th, 2010 on 6:34 am
For maps, Runsat can use any tile-based source – there’s a map tile file (needs notepad to be edited) in the runsat directory. For back country in the UK I use OpenCycleMap http://www.opencyclemap.org/ – this at least adds contours to the OSM data.
June 29th, 2010 on 3:19 pm
Last night 1.1.5 locked very quickly. This morning it wouldn’t lock at all so I am back to 1.1.2. I am using 10m accuracy.
Any idea where I can find a primer for tile based maps?

Hi,
I’m still having the timing issue with the new release. I think the problem might be that it is not recording my speed acurrately. Its telling me that my max speed is 11.6 MPH with an average of 8.5. That’s too fast.

Hi,
Using 1.1.6 on Touch Pro 2, the time reports correctly if I upload to RunSaturday, but if I save to KML it reports a time that is 4 hours ahead (9PM, supposed to be 5PM).

Thanks
I think it’s storing time in the KML as UTC – which is OK according to the spec (http://code.google.com/apis/kml/documentation/kmlreference.html#timestamp)
I’ll take a look at whether we can export local time in the KML as well as UTC time.

I don’t see any tags in the KML that runsat generates. Only see this:

@Doug and @Centurion,
HTC TouchPro2 with Win 6.1 and RunSat 1.1.3.0
I have had spotty GPS performance too. Out of two runs in Central Park, New York city, with many trees, one run was completely tracked by RunSat and the other on the SAME path only tracked the last 25%. My most recent couple of trips seemed to work better if I ran the included QuickGPS utility to download GPS initialization data right before I ran RunSat.
@Navmi,
I love this application. Can RunSat download GPS initialization data on startup, or offer it as an option? It only takes a second or two. I also use RunSat for car trips – additional profiles? I hope to use the GPS export files with photo editors to Geotag my photos. Does RunSat Geotag photos taken by phone from within RunSat?
July 5th, 2010 on 5:36 pm
I’ll take a look at the GPS tracking again… although I do believe that I’ve got the pipeline from GPS to app down to as few external influences as I can – so generally I believe that runsat/navmi is seeing the data that the GPS is reporting.
On the photo tagging, I looked at doing this, but didn’t get it working. On my Omnia II, then I can geotag the photos anyway – and I know some HTC camera apps can too. Also, I’ve heard about some addon applications (like GPSToday) which might be able to help.
More soon – although currently nice Summer weather is playing havoc with my coding time – nicer to be outside cycling

Hi,
this tool is really great! I use it for bike and now for inline skating and with connection of analysis on runsaturday its absolutely perfect! Great Job!
I have only one small problem: when program is interupted (for example phone switched off) the track is not uploaded and therefore lost. The program itself has saved some info, but it is in “navmi” file and I cannot work with it, continue track, upload to runsaturday, etc. Is there any way how to get to these data?
thanks
Tom
July 6th, 2010 on 4:46 pm
Thanks ST. If you just want a quick “hacky” way of getting the data into runsaturday, then you could edit the navmi.log file – it’s XML text to include a fake entry for the lost .navmi file. You can then upload it from the diary (only the .navmi gets uploaded – so the .log entry does not need to contain useful data).
Sorry this is a bit fiddly – I’ll also have a think about how to add a manual upload path – or how to auto recover details after a loss from switching off.
Thanks again for the comments.

For anyone using Verizon Touch Pro 2, the latest update uses an improved GPS. RunSat 1.1.6 works great with it, except I have occasional loss of time. Times will be fine for the first 5 kms, then lose a minute or so between 5 and 6 kms, then times are fine for the next 4 kms. I don’t appear to be losing gps signal. I have accuracy set to 50 and autopause set to never. Other than that, the app works great and I love it.
July 11th, 2010 on 2:39 pm
I’m running a Touch Pro 2 from Sprint with the latest Windows Mobile 6.5. I still can’t get 1.1.6 to get a GPS lock, but I have no problems with 1.1.2. Changing the GPS accuracy to 1km still doesn’t fix the problem.
Version 1.1.2 works well, so no problems. Just wondering if there is anything else I should try.
Love your application!!!
July 11th, 2010 on 2:59 pm
Thanks Centurian – and sorry for the problem… There’s only 3 questions I can think to ask on 1.1.6 – 1. when you are running 1.1.2 and have lock, then what numbers do you see next to T and Dh on the Detail screen (on http://www.navmi.com/wp-content/gallery/screenshots/detail.jpg); 2. with 1.1.6, does it matter if you try Auto instead of a COM port number for GPS; 3. Have you applied the “latest update” that mike talks about in his comment? (Or is that update only there for Verizon and not for Sprint?). Will try to assist – and thanks again for the feedback.
July 21st, 2010 on 8:52 pm
Just an update on this.
At least a couple of HTC users have told me that they got 1.1.6 to work and work well using the “auto” setting for GPS instead of using a specific COM port.
July 29th, 2010 on 1:39 am
I have version 1.1.3.0. How do I do an update to the newer version? On Windows Marketplace, it doesn’t show updates as being available.
It’s a great app for cycling. The only drawback is the lack of documentation. I have been able to figure out most everything, but there are still some issues. I don’t know they are actually “problems”. It may just be some settings that aren’t correct yet.

thx for this great app!
i’m using it on my windows 6.5 t-mobile mda v i don’t want to miss it anymore. great features and great for jogging and hiking. i’m loving the possibility to see all my hiking routes and how many kilometres i made when i’m on holiday. and when i’m back home i can even visualize it on google earth – absolutely great!
i’m missing only two to three things and i would even pay some bucks for this great app:
- better look / better gui on windows phone
- possibility to generate a waypoint for every picture taken with the onboard camera. would be much easier to share fotos with the exact location afterwards and would be a great feature for the kml export
- possibility to calculate calories (enter age, sex, weight and calculate data for jogging/running)
- possiblity to see the speed (km/h not min/km) on the details page
i’m using version 1.13 and i’m updating after this post to 1.16 – so if there are already features onboard mentioned above: sorry
but even without these new features this app really rocks! just wanted to say “thank you” that you are sharing this with us!
August 2nd, 2010 on 10:52 am
thanks for the great feedback too!
1. I like the idea “better look/better gui” – what sort of gui do you have in mind? Are there specific parts of the screen/ideas/designs you can suggest?
2. Currently the app does allow you to take some pictures and it does record the lat/lng of these pictures – but this is not (yet) synced with runsaturday.com. I need to think more about how/when to do this – thanks for remind me.
3. Agreed – I should try to add this – but it won’t be perfect – calorie estimation is not perfect science!
4. To see speed rather than pace, then I think you can just change the setting for that sport – it should then show kmh rather than min/km.
Thanks again for the great feedback

Thanx for this great app. Just wish you could add support for the zephyr bt hrm….
And a Android port …
Just two “simple” wishes

Hi again,
Lately, I’ve spent nice weekend on my bike with Runsat. Great application!
But now I’m trying to upload my .navmi files to runsaturday site and I noticed I need .gpx file… And I’m little bit confused… Where can I find an option to save my trips in .gpx file? Or, how can I convert .navmi file to .gpx file?
thanks in advance for your help
Tomas

Cannot get this to work. Once it installed on loading it – it is a notsupported exception around the windows.forms.control._Initinstance – any ideas
August 12th, 2010 on 5:24 pm
Yes, I am looking at an Android – and when I do I hope that it will include BT HRM support!
But producing this might take “a little time”!
August 12th, 2010 on 5:25 pm
I think I already answered this on the runsat forum?
August 12th, 2010 on 5:27 pm
Can you give me any more details about this?
What phone are you on? (It is touch screen, yes?)
Do you have Compact Framework 2 installed?
August 13th, 2010 on 6:52 am
i have downloaded and expanded with winzip. but how to install the sw?
August 13th, 2010 on 7:43 am
Hi Mike
To install, you need to copy the whole .cab file across to the phone, then open the .cab from File Explorer – the install will happen automatically. Hope that helps

hi stuart,
sorry for my late answer – i couldn’ find my post above – i was always looking in the faq and was wondering why it never appeared there.
.
finally i made
thx for pointing me to the settings section – i found the entry for showing km/h instead of min/km after reading your post. but i have to say -after using the app for a few jogging routes- that the min/km seting makes more sense, because it’s easier to see if i’m running constantly during the whole route. so forget about this point.
thx too, for telling me about this detail with the naming convention for the fotos. it’s easy to connect the foto with the place where it was taken because of the lat- and longitude in the filename. even though a waypoint for a foto would be a great feature for the future if possible.
i’m sorry that i gave no details for the optical issues and therefor i’m trying to share my thoughts with you on every (?) screen page. it’s hard for developers (i’m developing .net web and applications, too but never tried anything on the ce platform) to do something better without a good feedback and i’m hating this, too…
and please don’t get me wrong – everything i’m writing down here is just about my personal (!) taste and doesn’t mean that it’s the best way!!!
- the start screen on the iphone looks way better than on wm 6.5
- the diary and the settings are not really ugly but nothing special – o.k. it’s all about eye candy and has nothing to do with the features, i know
- when starting a new route the app presents all routes from the diary and i can overlay the new route onto an existing route or press cancel. i think that -on screens of that and similar types- it’s better to place the buttons for left, right, ok, cancel in the center under the main content, in this case under the routes
- after that, you can choose a file name for the new route. oin this screen i would use the same ok button (maybe a new one
) centered in the middle under the main content. the font size is big and so it’s impossible to the see path and the filename. maybe there is a way to let if float over 2 or 3 lines – just as many as needed.
- the next screen shows total time, tempo and distance. again not really ugly but nothing special. furthermore it would be great, if the buttons would carry a name under them like details, start, stop.
the detail page is o.k. but the buttons on this and all following pages should be named, too. sometimes it’S hard to guess what feature could be accessed with one of the buttons.
overall it would be great to use a specific set of icons and the constant use of these icons in the whole app. would be great if the look would be a bit more modern and “fresh”.
when exiting runsat i would center the buttons on the whole page, horizontally and vertically.
if you want to (you have my mailadress) we can maybe look for some icons that you can use free icons with a licence for own apps.
i would also love to give some more detailed input or even test some new things – just drop me a note!
thx again and please don’T take these optical thing to seriously!
nice greets and best wishes,
whity
August 14th, 2010 on 7:03 pm
ops, forget something, sorry!
what about two new ideas:
- writing down notes (free text) for evry route
- using your own pulse clock, and a new function in the app to save the given values: highest pulse, lowest pulse, avg. pulse, burned calories and stuff like that?
- showing this data (calories stuff and free text) on a details page that is accesible through the diary for every entry?
- what about saving the values of the details page (especially the lap stuff) for each route and showing it on the details page mentioned above, too?
August 14th, 2010 on 8:20 pm
Whity – absolutely stunningly good feedback – thanks
I can’t promise when I’m going to get to work on this right now – I’m too busy for my own good right now, but I will definitely be using your list when I do. Having an external set of eyes is really useful – thanks for these comments!
