Thanks Benjamin Currently there’s no quick and easy way to swap between different tiles – the only way you could do it is to change both the tile source and the map directory at the same time. I’m far too bsuy for my own good at the moment… but I’ll look at how map swapping functionality might be changed too – maybe to allow you to change during the activity – as a cyclist, I understand the different benefits of OSM and OCM.
I’m still having the timing issue with the new release. I think the problem might be that it is not recording my speed acurrately. Its telling me that my max speed is 11.6 MPH with an average of 8.5. That’s too fast for my pace. Not sure what else I can do for you to help find the problem.
What I’m seeing makes me wonder if there’s something odd going on in the clocking of your Imagio – it genuinely looks like the “TickCount” method within the Windows OS on your phone is giving me times which are 20% fast. I’ll be in touch shortly with a test app to try to confirm.
It does look like this issue is unique to you (so far) – there are no other timing problems I’ve had reported for 1.1.6 – but I have had some “GPS lock” issues reported.
This app simply tries to compare the TickCount with the onboard clock on your Imagio.
If you could leave it running for a period of time (e.g. 20 minutes like your run) then I’d be fascinated to see what the results are. If possible please use your phone just like you do on the run – e.g. don’t run the test while connected to a charger.
On my Omnia II, I just ran it for almost an hour and I saw very little variation. Because of the nature of the main time tick I do expect to see up to 1 second variation occasionally – but nothing like your 2 minutes every 10 that you are seeing in the main runsat application.
Hope this helps move us forwards – just trying to work out what the problem is
Downloaded 1.1.6 today and had some trouble with it. My speed kept fluctuating between 0 and actual… and distance never changed from 0.0. My results were uploaded to runsaturday.com and show a 5 min trip was taken, with 0.0 distance, and 0.0 avg speed. Am I doing something wrong here?
How about implementing a small portable music player into this application? It’s kinda hard switching between wmp and runsat. Would make lot easier for runners
One thing that I just noticed is in the GPS section of the information screen, it switches from ‘no gps data’ to the name of a sat. Whenever it is displaying ‘no gps data’ the speed is at 0; whenever it shows the name of a sat it actually displays a speed. Also, there is a red square in the gps section (just as shown in your screenshots section of the website). I’m assuming this should be green but I haven’t seen it any other color on my phone or on your website, so I’m not 100% certain.
Thanks John
This is definitely on the ideas list – although I’m also looking for other player apps I could try to integrate with as I’m not looking to write yet another music player app.
Stuart
I think there’s something that some phones don’t like about 1.1.16… I’ll take a look at what this is. In the meantime, please feel free to see if 1.1.12 might work better for you – there’s a blog post with the installer link in it
Thanks again for the feedback – will try to understand what is going wrong on some phones!
If you can’t create a profile using the app, then simply sign up to http://www.runsaturday.com using a browser, then enter your username and password into the app. Hope that helps
I think I found my problem. Locking my touch screen after starting the app must have been affecting my times. When I went out for my run this am, I decided not to lock the screen on my imagio. When I finished the time was right on. Hopefully this info helps someone else.
Hi,
My problem is that I am not able to find the “lap button”. I know I can use the auto lap function or the pause button, but you wrote about third(manual) way. Can you help me? Thanks.
J.
Hi Jindrich
To add laps you need to use the rightmost bottom button – the only reason this isn’t available if you’ve also enabled the “turn off backlight” button.
Stuart
Hi!
Great application!
I’ve only one remark/sugestion: can you add an option “backlight always on” Now screen backlight is descending after time set in system settings (e.g. 30 sec)
Hi Rob
Yes – I have a version running on Bada – not all functions yet (e.g. no map yet) but basic functions are OK.
I’m slowly trying to get it through the Samsung app approval process so it can be seen in the on-phone app store
Stuart
Hi, I had the same problem than ajschmidt reported on July 5th, 2010 on 4:20 pm, but with the solution to switch on “GPS auto” the elevation is always “48″ independend of the real height. But I get a fiy and all other data are ok. Switching to “COM4, 57600bd” where the GPS is connected I got the elevation but never ever a fix because the program seems to loose the contact to GPS.
With another program I found that the GPS is delivering LON, LAT, HEIGHT; 48 (comma and semicolon is correct) where I assume the 48 is the elevation correction. This program uses an “intermediate Driver Mode”. Does anybody have an idea to correct this?
I like your app but get frustrated with because it never starts the distance. I keep pressing buttons and sometimes it starts. I’ve changed it from pace to speed. Is there a way that it will start recording the distance in miles? Thanks.
There are two reasons the distance would not start.
1. If the auto-pause is detected
2. If the GPS doesn’t have accurate enough lock.
If it is a GPS lock issue – assuming you are on .16, then please try:
- setting the GPS minimum required distance to a higher value – by default I think it’s 50m
- changing the GPS method to “Auto”
Thanks for the tips. I went running and it seemed to work. I have another question. Do you have to have it on for 5-10 seconds before the gps starts working? I think that was my problem, I started running before it was ready.
hi,
i hat runsat on my htc diamond 2 running. it worked really good and i was really happy with it, unfortunately my phone got stolen, and i’m thinking of getting an android device. i used runsat for cycling. especially the maps were really helpful, when i wasn’t familiar with the terrain. adn that you can display were yoou have been on runsaturday.
are you going to make this super app availlable for android? i would really appreciate it.
Hello,
I have a question about the upload function. What for do I use it? Can I see my activities online? Ore will they be send to my Email address? Where can I lock in to see and process my activities?
Thanks for your Help
Ps. The Program is great ..Really Good JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!
new user, try it today for the first, looks good but at normal walking i have a speed off 14km/h, the faster i go the slower the result on the screen?
Anyone some help?
This might be a display bug… which phone are you on? Also are you set up for Pace or for Speed? (Pace should get lower the faster you go – e.g. 14min/km is faster than 15min/km)
To preserve battery life, the best option is to lock the phone, turning the screen off.
However, I understand why you might want a screen-on lock too… especially for activities like cycling – so I’ll look into adding it “soon” – just work getting in the way at present.
hi, i installed the program on my omnia i900 when i run it it get to a screen that say: ” warning0 using a-gps, downloading map files or uploading traces may incur date charges.” than i hit ok and nothing happen, its cloes the screen and go back to today screen.
please help
I am using runsat on a HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint Version) with Win 6.5. I really like the app but am having a problem. It gets a GPS lock with no problem but if I turn off the back light to lock the screen using the button on top it will usually but not always stop GPS tracking until I push the button again. This of course messes up the distances. If I leave the light on and put it in it away it will typically have stopped tracking or something because the stop or pause gets bumped. As I work around I can go to the altitude screen and hope for the best as no stop or pause is there. Really I would like to have it keep tracking without the danger of bumping buttons and drawing power with the screen on. Suggestions?
Just for HTC users (my Samsung works OK when locked), there’s an option to show the screen off button – if you choose this button then you get a screen off button instead of lap. Hope that works ok for you!
The main thing is to turn the screen off – on the HTC you need to use the special backlight button to do this – the hard button on the HTC will kill the GPS as well as the screen!
Hi, your app works great until I switch to another app and back while cycling. The app always report a sequence contains no elements and afterwards it display strange graphics. This is 100% reproducible.Hope you can fix this.

There’s a setting in RunSat somewhere to allow you to switch off the screen from software – this might help with your problem.
